Overview

On September 23rd, the Texas Secretary of State’s office announced a “forensic audit” of Collin, Dallas, Harris, and Tarrant counties. Hours after the release of a letter from Former President Donald Trump to Texas Governor Greg Abbott calling for an “audit” in Texas.

While Gov. Abbot claims the audits are not connected to Pres. Trump and began months ago, county officials said they have not been told what the audits entail or what prompted them. They learned of the audit from the Secretary of State’s public announcement.

On September 28th the Secretary of State’s office released details on the “audit” procedures, suggesting the review will begin in the spring of 2021. They also stated they will not hire an outside contractor like one used in Arizona. A cost estimate was not given but gathering from past statements from the office, funds will most likely come from the Legislature.

"The conspiracy theorists who want to come up with all these ways or reasons why this election wasn't right - they might very well find something else (to doubt) it’s time to move on." said Republican Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley. SourceSourceSourceSourceSource
